Rupert didn’t really know what to do when Amir got trapped under the rubble. Amir was technically his captor. Maybe if he knew he was a prince, it’d be different. But he didn’t. Rupert told him he was Fitz the thief. And so he was a navigator, guide, and prisoner.

But then, he got to know him a little more. Bit by bit. And really, Amir just seemed like an extremely pressured teenager trying to live up to his mother’s expectations and standards. Which he felt bad about. Especially since Amir kept whipping around to face him like he was going to get stabbed. Which was annoying, but still.

Then, they found a baby dragon. In a cave. Which came down on top of them. Great.

The dragon crawled itself out, so it was fine. But then, he looked over, and Amir’s legs were pinned under a group of heavy rocks. And Rupert couldn’t just leave him there.
