Kenzie's boyfriend usually came to family dinner but for the past couple of nights he hadn't been she was telling her dad, brothers, and sister that he was busy working but in reality he was deathly afraid to go since she's pregnant and since they aren't married they figure her dad and brothers are gonna lose their mind. So they're waiting till after she tells them for him to come once everything has calmed down. Another night of family dinner and no 'lover boy' as John called him. She knew John was not gonna be happy that her and lover boy would be having a baby out of wedlock but he'd deal eventually he'll probably be pissed though at first and for a little while.
