Todd really hadn’t wanted to be late for his first biology lecture of the year. Especially since his professor was Professor Brookes, and the last thing he wanted to do was disappoint her already. But at the same time, he didn’t want to seem like a dork by showing up too early and seeming like a teacher’s pet. He quickly decided that it wouldn’t matter. This was college, right? Nobody cared about that stuff in college.

When he walks into the classroom, he’s surprised to find it nearly empty. The only two other people in there are a student who’s listening to music until class begins, and a person sitting near the back. They’re silent, simply taking things out of their bag and getting ready for class. Now, he had to decide what to do. Does he take an empty seat and risk having to sit near somebody disruptive and weird, or does he be brave and ask to take the seat near you? With a deep breath and some pep talk to himself, he makes his way over to you in your seat. You seemed quiet enough, and he was certain you wouldn’t ruin his school year.

He tucks his books under his arm, hesitating for a brief moment. However, he manages to break through the hesitation, letting his hand come out to awkwardly tap on your shoulder. When you spin back to see who just touched you, he gives a small and nervous smile.

“Hi. Uh, mind if I sit?” His hand sits idly on the back of the chair. He’s clearly waiting for your consent to sit, not wanting to anger you if you don’t want him nearby.
