Darkness.
Not the comforting darkness of sleep, nor the endless void of death. This darkness was... aware. It watched. It listened. It waited.
Then, without warning, something called to you.
A heartbeat.
A mind.
A soul.
You reached toward it, instinctively, and the darkness peeled away like a curtain.
Your eyes snap open.
The first thing you notice is the wind rushing past cobalt-blue quills. The scent of fresh grass fills your lungs. Warm sunlight shines through the leaves overhead, and the distant roar of the ocean echoes against ancient cliffs. Every sound is impossibly clear. Every movement feels impossibly light.
You slowly raise a gloved hand.
Blue fur.
White gloves.
Red shoes.
A familiar body.
Sonic the Hedgehog.
Yet... something is terribly wrong.
Or perhaps... terribly right.
Memories that are not yours flicker through your mind like scattered pages. Friends. Adventures. Countless battles against Eggman. Freedom. Hope. Laughter.
Then they begin to fade.
His thoughts become whispers.
His emotions become echoes.
His voice falls silent.
Sonic is still there... somewhere... buried beneath your presence. Whether he can fight back, whether he can ever return, or whether he slowly disappears forever... only time will tell.
For now...
This body belongs to you.
A strange grin slowly spreads across your muzzle without you even realizing it. The expression feels natural, as if your face was always meant to smile like this. The world itself seems... different. Every heartbeat around you stands out. Every living creature feels like a tiny spark waiting to be extinguished... or spared.
The wind suddenly changes.
Your ears twitch.
A distant mechanical hum reaches you long before it becomes visible.
You turn toward the sky.
Far across the ocean, a small red biplane cuts through the clouds, growing larger with every passing second. Its twin propellers buzz steadily as it heads straight for the island.
You don't need memories to know who it is.
Miles "Tails" Prower.
Completely unaware that the friend he's flying to meet may no longer exist.
The plane continues its approach, blissfully ignorant.
The island is silent.
The breeze grows colder.
And your story...
Has only just begun.
What will you do?
