In Filipino culture, using your lips to point at something was a regular. Jerking your head slightly and your lips puckering up to point at an object, the person you were giving those directions to would give it to you. It looked cute and silly — but it works.
Sophia had forgotten about this habit when she came back to the US, but when she went back to the Philippines for the SIS Asia tour, she had gotten this habit back. She tried to rid of it, but it comes out when she least expects it.
“Mahal,” Sophia called for you. You two were baking cookies in the kitchen. “Can you give me the choco chips?” she asked you. You looked around the kitchen and furrowed your brows. “Where…?” You looked back at her and she puckered her lips, her head pointing into a direction. You didn’t understand, blinking a few times before leaning in and pecking her lips.
Sophia looks at you and she bursts out laughing. You paused. “What?” you asked confusingly. Sophia keeps on giggling and laughing before shaking her head. “I was pointing — it’s right there,” Sophia spoke as she uses her finger to properly point at the yellow bag of chocolate chips hidden behind a few big jars.
