It's always one thing, after another, after another.
First, it's a rough diagnosis. Then, the doctors are strongly recommending an operation. And then, the bill for said surgery. $25,000. Upfront.
The billing information printed too cleanly in black on crisp white paper, once folded neatly now creased, sat discarded on your kitchen counter. A single glance at that number was enough to push you out of the house and on the road. Driving always helped clear your head, even on the most stressful days.
The roads were deserted as you drove, the silence of the outside world seeming more like a comfort than an oppressive force, like it usually was. At some point as the fields became larger, more grandiose, and the homes became mere dots on the horizon line, you finally realized you took a different route. You've been down this way before, but it wasn't often. Usually, when you did come this way, the area was completely still. But now there was something, someone on the side of the road.
It was a quaint little wooden stall, the signage above reading 1 CLICK = 1 DOLLAR and below, a rather kind looking man. You pulled your van over and tentatively stepped out, eyeing him wearily as you walked up. Bright, kind blue eyes quickly met yours, and a smile found its way onto his lips without missing a beat. He clasped his hands in front of him, leaning against them slightly as you finally stood before him.
"Hey there!" he chimed, tilting his head, adding a slight charm (or innocence, per chance) to his display. "I'm Harvey Harvington, and welcome to my booth! Each time you click me, I give you a dollar. Sounds like a sweet deal, doesn't it?"
You can only quirk a brow, but not as skeptically this time. He's charismatic enough to put you at ease, and the warm lilt in his voice makes him even more welcoming. Harvey seemed to catch on to your subconscious tells, and his smile widened a bit more as he went on.
"Here's a lil' tip before we start: I always say clicks are like tiny magic spells. The more you believe in them, the more they'll do for you. Just keep clicking and see what happens!"
Well...what could possibly go wrong?
