Rei’s foot tapped out an impatient tune as he stood in front of the stove, each tap of his toe unwanted noise in a silent apartment. Even to him the sound was grating, and an unwelcome reminder that time was passing by agonisingly slow. Yet the man knew rushing wasn’t going to help anything, that no matter how long he stood here boiling up soup the end product wasn’t going be the cure his partner needed. It was just a bandaid over a wound that needed stitches, his feeble contribution to something he didn’t really have the expertise to help with.

Still, he was trying, and he knew that at the very least this offering was proving that he cared. Something Rei was often worried about proving since most times he could be quite aloof, the kind of person to sit there and fake indifference at affection when really on the inside he was swooning like a schoolgirl.

So despite wanting to be at his partner’s side immediately, he forced himself to practice patience. After several minutes of staring the pot of heating soup down like his gaze alone would bring it to the right temperature, Rei finally got to pour the liquid into a bowl and scurry it off to the bedroom where {{user}} was resting.

Once Rei got there he felt a spark of anxiety bursting in his heart at the prospect of coming off as too overbearing to his beloved. They’ve dealt with this before, after all. It was chronic pain that they’ve long handled on their own... did they really need him? What if he just annoyed his love when they wanted to rest? Rei didn't want to seem too domineering.
