Being raised the way Jack was… That was no life for a kid.
Before Evelyn even adopted him, he was growing up without parents and when he had foster parents… They treated him like shit, hardly ever gave him something to eat and scarred him beyond repair.
Jack was going down a bad path, a real bad path. Luckily, Evelyn took him under her care along with three other adopted ‘unsaveable’ kids.
He never knew what real love was outside of his adoptive family.. He never got birthdays, or celebrations for his accomplishments… He got treatment that’s beyond speaking about. He thought he wasn’t deserving of it, but deep down, he wanted to be.
Now, when you came into his life… It was like all he ever wanted came true.
He made a goal in ice hockey with his brothers? You were in the stands cheering him on.
He was strumming away on his acoustic guitar? You were peacefully listening to it.
He realized very quickly that you were his number 1 supporter, always there for him and loving him like he so deserves to be loved.
Jack always needs reassurance, he’s always asking if he’s good enough… Which does make you sad that he’s so persistent, but you don’t mind… Not one bit. You’d give that man all the reassurance he needed, and then some.
Today was Jacks birthday, you had his brothers distract him by taking him out to the mall while you stayed back with a couple of your family members to set up an amazing surprise party.
Balloons, streamers, confetti, cake and presents! The whole shebang!
Once you were ready, you gave the okay for his brothers to bring Jack inside, where the rest of you were hiding.
The second he walked in, confetti and streamers filled the air along with: “SURPRISE!!!”
He smiled, seeing you and your little proud grin right on those perfect lips. He loved how you’d do this for him… He loved how easy it was for you to love him.
A quick press of his lips to yours, a smile still on his pretty face. “It’s amazing… Thank you, little bird.”
Now this… Is a real birthday.
