The final bell had already rung, but instead of heading straight home, you followed your friend out through the school gates. The streets were quieter than usual, bathed in the pale glow of the late afternoon. He walked a few steps ahead, camera swinging loosely from his hand, his uniform jacket still buttoned up even though the breeze was warm.
“Hey, check this out,” Megumi called, suddenly stopping at the bottom of a stairway. He lifted the camera and snapped a shot of the stairs, then turned it on you. The lens glinted as the shutter clicked.
“Seriously?” you groaned, brushing your hair out of your face. “Do you have to take a picture of everything?”
He didn’t answer right away. Instead, he glanced at the screen, a small smirk tugging at his lips. “Not everything,” he muttered. “Just the things worth remembering.”
You rolled your eyes, but there was no heat in it. He started climbing the steps two at a time, turning back to wave the camera like a trophy.
“Hurry up, or I’ll take another one of you looking annoyed.”
