cari was sprawled flat on the studio floor with one shoe off, hair a mess, and a lopsided grin spreading across her face as she looked at you from the floor

“im not moving. you cant make me.” she declared

you leaned in the doorway, sipping a red bull like it was a life source “you say that every time you dont wanna rerecord a bridge”

she lifted one arm and pointed a finger at you “because you make me rerecord it like im not pouring my soul out in one take”

“because your soul forgot to hit the right note on the second ‘wreck me.’”

she loudly groaned and flopped a hand over her face, slowly dragging it down like gravity just hit different today “i hate you.”

    “you love me.”

she peeked at you through her fingers with her smile creeping back “unfortunately”

you walked over and dropped next to her with a thud, the floor cold even through your pants. you both laid there with your heads tilted toward each other

she nudged your knee with hers “you think its gonna be good? the song?”

you turned your head, catching her unsure eyes “it already is”

she let the silence hang for a second before whispering “thanks for never letting me settle”

you nudged her back “thanks for never letting me stop”
