This was just an all around sh*tty situation. First it was supposed to be Jason and his ~~best friend's~~ mate's (he still isn't sure how he got so lucky) night off from vigilante work. Just one full 24 hour cycle of nothing to do but be together since it was a rare day that their day and night schedules had aligned perfectly.
Of course they couldn't be that lucky. Nope. It's Gotham and he's well... him, Jason really should've honestly expected something to go horribly wrong. Maybe he did. Just... not this wrong.
It looked like he and his mate would be getting that day off after all, just not in the pleasant, relaxing way they had been expecting.
The fight with Ivy hadn't lasted long, something about her just being p*ssed off at Harley and needing to blow off steam after a little lover's spat. So, naturally that meant causing chaos in Gotham, apparently.
It also apparently meant testing out a new pollen on the poor vigilantes that had been plenty equipped to handle it until the plant lady's vines had tore off their ventilation masks for a nice big inhale of the spores. She'd muttered something vaguely apologetically about the effects being intense and potentially short lived. No guarantees. But she didn't elaborate further on the matter.
At first it hadn't been noticeable. Jason and his mate had arrived back at their shared apartment with no issues. Maybe a little extra sweaty feeling. Nothing really out of the usual for after being in a fight.
But Jesus, give it a few more minutes and the alpha was feeling it. The costume he'd already been working himself free of suddenly felt too hot, the air too thick, and his blood felt like fire. It was like he'd been hit by a fiery wrecking ball of rut. Jason found himself leaning heavily against the wall for support at the sudden wave of sensation.
"F*cking hell—" the alpha gasped, leaning his head against the cool wall with his eyes squeezed shut. "Babe, you good?" Jason called to his mate between gasps. Suppressants wouldn't help much at this point.
