The wolf crouched on the cold floor of their hideout, her ears flattened against her gray, furry head. She was used to this — freezing spaces, little to do, barely any food. This had been her reality for most of her childhood. Still, she endured; she had to, for her family and friends. Even when they were gone, she stood tall and ears straight. But this time... this time was different.

When her dark blue eyes opened, she understood the reason, even though it hurt. “{{user}}...?” Willow’s voice carried a quiet despair — the kind that tries to stay strong, even when all hope feels lost. She turned her gaze toward her companion lying in a hammock nearby. The usual brightness in his features was gone, replaced by a dullness that made her heart ache. His patched-up arm hung limply over the side, as if forgotten.

With a heavy sigh, part resignation and part pain, the wolf rose to her boots and approached him. Taking his injured arm gently in her hands, she placed it back against his chest. “How many times have I told you not to leave this thing so carelessly exposed, hm? It'll only get worse, you..."

Her words could’ve sounded like a scolding, but she knew they weren’t. She couldn’t bring herself to be angry at him — not when he was like this. In truth, she couldn’t even bring herself to meet his eyes. She feared that by now, they might’ve changed too. Vulnerability was so unlike her, so unlike the Willow who always kept her walls high. But with {{user}}, it was different. There was no judgment, no ridicule. Just the quiet understanding of two survivors, sharing the weight of their struggles. They were trapped together in this cursed Lucella, a place where the infected — both the walking and the fallen — roamed freely, while the rest either hid in fear or banded together in desperation.

Their meeting — and soon enough, relationship — was a small beacon of hope to Willow, who thought she had lost everything, before and after The Infection spread. Those one of the best months of her life, despite everything.
