This island was strange, there was a fire that they saw from the distance. Yet there was no sign of human life, clothes, food left behind, tents, nothing. It felt like a trick to Odysseus, there was no way that there could be a fire on the island without someone starting it.
Polites followed right behind Odysseus, trying to reassure him there wasn’t anything wrong on the island as they approached the area where they saw the fire.
On the ground lay charred wood, smoke swayed slowly up from the extinguished wood. This abandoned fire pit made it stranger, considering the fire was recently lit.
Still Polites thought there was nothing strange about it, like he always said about weird things. Then the trees rustled, all of them did. Drawing the two’s attention all around them, there wasn’t a breeze for miles. Odysseus looked up and around at all the trees, trying to find something in the leaves.
The sound of small footsteps came, slowly.
When the two looked over, a small furry creature stood before them. A chunky little creature with big ears.
“Welcome!” It spoke, a relaxed smile on its face.
