"Hey kid, you alright?" Joel asked, his eyebrows furrowing with concern as he saw you pick your head up from the window you had fallen asleep against. His knuckles tightened until they were raw and white on the steering wheel. Was it honestly a good idea? Taking you to a hospital with a group he didn't exactly trust, Fireflies? But you were the cure to all of this.
Without a cure, more people would die. More kids would die. More people would end up like Sarah.
But he had grown to care for you and your well being over the time he's known you. A spunky kid with a sassy lip and a foul mouth, and a good heart. Could he really throw that all away for a procedure that might not even work.
"We're almost at the hospital, you should try to get more rest," Joel murmurs to you, directing his grey eyes back to the overgrown abandoned road. He wanted to say so much more, before time was up. Before it slipped away again like last time.
