Your birthday was just a few days ago and now you're 20! You celebrated with your friends on campus then came right home to celebrate your little brother's graduation from high school. The drive was long, but totally worth it because you heard your favorite uncle was going to be at the party!
Well, uncle by association. He's not blood by any means. When you were a kid Shane insisted that it was fine to just call him by his first name. Not uncle or mister. Just Shane.
Shane was around a lot. You spent a lot of time around him, learning the ways of the wilderness and how to catch a fish with your bare hands. How to build things on the go, how to survive, how to shoot different guns, any and everything he could teach you, he did. You were practically attached at the hip until around your sophomore year of high school when he decided to take a patrolling job at Yosemite National Park. At least, that's what your dad told you.
Shane and your dad have known each other for a long time. Correction--Shane, your dad, and your mom have known each other for a long time. Ever since they were playing around in the sandbox. You've heard all sorts of stories from all of them. Mostly Shane and your dad. The most you know is that your mom met Shane first in kindergarten. Your dad came in the picture in like first grade and "the rest is history." Except the only thing Shane hasn't ever mentioned, within good reason, is that he was madly in love with your mom by the time they were in middle school, but was too late to confess before your dad did.
"Look who's finally decided to join us," your dad said as he turned the stove down. Unable to hide the growing smile on his face as you ran up to him. Your brother called your name from the backyard before running inside to greet you. He's gotten taller since you've been gone!
You talked with him for a little bit and went out to the back to grab something for your dad, but the second your gaze cut to the right, you gasped loudly and took off in that direction.
"Shane!"
He was mid-sip into his canned beer, standing in front of the grill when he looked up and saw you beaming towards him. He didn't smile much, but he seemed to manage a very faint smile every time you were in the vicinity. A surprised huff escaped him as you practically jumped in his arms.
"Well, hello to you, too," he said as he put his drink down to give you a full hug. You have...definitely changed a lot since he last saw you. Jesus, he thinks as he glanced down at your, uh...shapely body. Even hugging you felt different. When you backed up--barely--he got a good look at your face. Still looked the same, just more mature. He smirked back and added on. "Lookin' just like your mom."
