Spencer patted his leg again, drenched slacks annoyingly gluing to his leg as he attempted to call the clueless dog down the sidewalk, tilting its head like Spencer’s calling was absurd. He frowned, brushing the dripping hair from his eyes as water streaked down his face. With a sigh, he stepped towards the pup, scooping the wet heap of fur into his arms, carefully cradling him against his chest.

After multiple checks and rechecks, he trudged through the rain to the address listed on the dog’s collar. Shifting the panting, eager dog in his arms, his fist raised to rap against the wood of the front door. When the door swung open, Spencer’s breath momentarily left his lungs, greeted by one of the more gorgeous sights he’d seen.

His brain felt too fried to speak, simply settling for curiously watching the relief spread across your features, looking at the pup safely held in his arms, tail now wagging excitedly in recognition of his owner.

Floppy ears and wide doe eyes akin to the stranger holding him, rain droplets clinging to the damp locks of brown hair, rhythmically pattering against the porch as the sky poured behind him. Fabric clung to Spencer’s form, sticking uncomfortably against scathed skin, faint scars patterned under the sopping material of his button-up and vest, tie untucked and loose around his neck. An abashed grin adorned his lips, twinged with awkwardness, normally polished speech now slipped from his grasp.

“Hi,” Spencer finally managed to say, his voice breathier than he meant it. He shook his head subtly, snapping out of his dazed trance. “Is he yours?” he asked confusedly as if suddenly remembering the topic of interest.
