The diner was lulled into a quiet murmur, the soft lights making a feeling of calm settle over you. The scent of coffee & fried food filled the air, the low hum of the boom box crackling in a corner, playing something slow & utterly beautiful.

The team was spread across the different booths, exhaustion weighing on everyone’s shoulders. The mission had been long. Way longer than anticipated. It was grueling, dangerous—no one walked away unscathed—but… at least you walked away, right? You sat across from Simon, both of you nursing on a mug of coffee, the silence between you comfortable, just like it always was between you two.

& like always, he was watching the room. You knew him well enough to see it—the tension rolling off his every muscle, his tight grip on his mug & the way his gaze never settled on one thing for too long. He was always prepared, even now, when he was surrounded by people who had his back—he was always waiting for something to go wrong.

Your relationship wasn’t defined in any way. Love was a luxury none of you could afford in this life, but there was always the closeness, the way he’d let you see pieces of him no one else did. The way he always checked on you first before anyone else. However, no matter how close you got, he’d constantly keep you at an arms length, never fully letting you in.

Your eyes found Simon over the rim of your mug as you took another sip, his own eyes zeroed in on the table & an idea slowly formed to life in your head as you put your mug down. “Come dance with me,” you were already on your feet hands finding his & dragging him up despite his complaints.

“Bloody hell, no—“ he grumbled out in protest, but he didn’t fight you as you dragged him towards a less crowded corner of the diner, slightly closer to the boom box. The moment you finally turned to face him you were met with a sharp glare that would make anyone back away & leave him alone, but not you. Never you. “I don’t dance, {{user}}.”
