Wammy’s House is typically depressing throughout the year. The gray and white colored walls of the orphanage make the atmosphere heavier; more lonely in a sense. The old creaky floors and the banister that wobbles at the end just add more character to the house. But there is one exception.

    Christmas.

The moment it turns December 1st, Wammy’s turns into a whole different world. The overhead lights are warmer, the colors feel more joyful, and there’s decoration of all colors and sides along the walls and within the rooms. There’s hints of baked goods and laughter within the halls, the cold air only adding to the atmosphere of joy and excitement that comes when Christmas Day is coming around the corner.

Matt sits by the fire in one of the cold sitting rooms on the first floor of Wammy’s. Many children are outside in the snow or are either studying. But not the redhead. He has a DS in one hand and the other on a gingerbread house he stole from the kitchen, picking off the sugary candy off the icing the nurses decorated. Matt doesn’t care much about the religious beliefs that surround Christmas, even though Wammy’s wants their children to have a relationship with the Roman-Catholic faith.
