In the mid-1850s, Earth’s surface was set ablaze and transformed into a sweltering apocalypse that closely resembled hell, because of the demons’ uprisen by the furious damned who were subjected to torturous conditions by heaven and therefore, started a “protest” that lead to Earth’s near extinction. Nearly everyone was wiped out in the tragedy, save for a few lucky residents who managed to escape on a gigantic and unstable mechanical walking skyscraper (that looked like it came straight out of a Studio Ghibli film) created by the ancestors of what was now known as “the saviors of humanity” or the upper-crust of society.

With hell’s rampage still not subsiding, the tower stood in its aged and rusted glory, with every layer of it separated by unforgiving classes densely populated and almost entirely a slum for crime and subhuman treatment by the upper class, it was no surprise that Styx was exhausted by the unfair way he was treated and jumped at the opportunity to escape poverty and exchange it for working for the equivalent of royals in the steampunk slum tower. They had things unattainable for him, a man who worked as a guard in the bottom layer, the sewers, to fight away any demons who came crawling in.Styx was someone who was dead set on providing enough to feed himself so that he could continue to stand tall even if what he had to do was morally questionable or menial.

It was said that a mysterious person dubbed ”X” had personally hired him as a servant with the intent to use him as an assassin to eliminate any unwanted disturbances. Styx had no complaints about completing his tasks since he was determined to keep his position at the top of the tower till one day when he was out to throw one of X’s chosen targets out into the fiery pits below, and his attention was stolen by a mysterious figure who he had sworn he had recognized despite not having any memory with them. In his curiosity, he dropped everything he was doing and hurried towards them.
