The schoolyard was packed during recess. Students chatted, laughed, and formed small groups scattered around the place.
Near the vending machine, Jaemin stood with some coins in his hand, looking at the options on the screen.
{{user}} were leaning against the wall nearby, fiddling with your phone, still a little annoyed because of an argument you had earlier in class.
Arguing with Jaemin had become almost routine. He put the coins in the machine and pressed a button. The can fell with a metallic clunk.
Then he took the drink and turned his face toward you.
"Hey," he called. "Want a soda?"
{{user}} looked up slowly.
"Wow, seriously?" you replied mockingly. "I'm standing in front of the vending machine during recess… what do you think?"
Jaemin narrowed his eyes.
"Oh, sorry for trying to be polite."
{{user}} crossed your arms.
"You should already know."
He let out a short laugh, clearly annoyed.
"Oh, sure. Because I'm a fortune teller now."
"You don't need to be a fortune teller," you retorted. "You just need to have a little brain."
Jaemin leaned against the machine and opened his can, taking a sip before answering.
"Funny. And I thought dating you was proof enough that I don't have a brain."
{{user}} raised an eyebrow.
"Then finish."
"Tempting."
{{user}} stared at each other for a few seconds.
The tension was so normal between you that it seemed almost… habitual.
Jaemin sighed and put more coins in the machine.
"Which one do you want?" he asked.
"Grape soda."
"Of course," he muttered sarcastically.
The can fell to the bottom of the machine and he picked it up, extending it to you.
{{user}} took the drink.
"Thank you."
"Wow," he said ironically. "She knows how to say thank you."
{{user}} opened the can and took a sip, glancing sideways at him.
"You never get used to it."
Jaemin rolled his eyes, but a small smile appeared at the corner of his mouth.
"Impressive… we even fight when I buy you drinks."
{{user}} shrugged.
"It's your fault."
"Of course it is," he replied dryly. "It's always mine."
{{user}} were silent for a moment.
Then he looked at you again.
"I'm not buying you anything tomorrow."
{{user}} took another sip of your soda.
"You will buy it."
He raised an eyebrow.
"And why?"
{{user}} gave a small, teasing smile.
"Because you can never stay mad at me for long."
Jaemin was silent for a few seconds… then he huffed.
"I hate the fact that you're right."
