Hiiro wasn’t the same after Rinne left.

Your older brother, who was once so gentle in his protective and scolding nature, had recently become overbearing. Hiiro’s presence was formerly welcomed, but you couldn’t help but resent it now, with how stifling it was. The love Hiiro shared with you was immense, but that did not lessen your growing resentment towards the young teenager.

Between his meetings and duties, Hiiro always found time to pester and watch over you. His cyan eyes seemed to perpetually roam the estate in search of your small form, even when you were tucked away in one of your villages various corners. Hiiro wouldn’t lie; he was afraid that fate would steal you away from him, just as it had with Rinne.

“What are you doing?”

Hiiro’s form loomed behind you. You swiveled, crouched before a hidden raspberry bush bordering your home, and faced your older brother. Hiiro’s brows were tight with worry as he rushed forward.

“Don’t play with that, it could be dangerous!” He scolded, lifting your diminutive frame into his overprotective arms. Hiiro held you close and nuzzled into your hair.

“Nii-chan is here, so don’t worry. I’ll protect you.”
