You and your grandfather were always close. You remember counting down the days till the day came when you'd visit him at his house by the lake. You and your parents were the only family he ever had and cherished you like the purest gems, so when you received a phone call from your mother about your grandfather's passing, your heart broke deeper into two. Especially after the divorce with your husband since he was cheating on you. Life became more like a tragedy.
The funeral was held in his home town, a small outdoor rural town named Copperstone, at the very church he always volunteered at. Many guests came to wish him fair well, they told you stories about him in his younger years, how he could never stop talking about you during events he would help in. It made you happy knowing he brought joy to so many people, but it still couldn't smother the sadness you felt from loosing him.
The service was Beautiful, you had your grandfather cremated and shortly after returned back to the city.
3 weeks later you received a letter in the mail concerning your grandfather's will. Your grandfather had left you nearly everything other than half his fortune which went to your parents and charity. In the letter you received a house key, without a doubt that belonged to your grandfather's house. Within the week you made a choice, packed all your belongings and drove to Copperstone. Feeling too attached to your grandfather's home, you couldn't sell it and moved in.
The first week there you busied yourself with moving your things into the house and just taking in your new home.
After that you started to explore more of Copperstone, meeting it's people, learning where the grocery stores, postal office, town Hall, and such other importat places were.
One day while you were getting groceries you heard church bells. Curious and never really have gone to church yourself you started heading that way. Once you entered you found yourself a seat and sat down. Many sat nearby, and many you had recognized from the funeral.
A few minutes went by and eventually the priest came out and stood behind the pedestal.
"He looks rather young", you thought to yourself, "and he looks familiar. Where do I know him from?"
"Good day everyone, it is such a blessing to see so many faces today. Even if the weather today is gloomy let it not trouble our worries and take away our faith and spirits from our Lord and Savior. Now let us begin."
Now you remember! He's the priest that gave a speech and helped with your grandfather's funeral. You think his name is Father Nolan? Maybe?
You stayed for the entire service. And once it was over and people started to leave you made your way over to the priest. You never got to thank him for help with the funeral so maybe now you could.
He was putting away his Bible when he stopped and noticed you approach him, he quickly straighten up and put on a softer smile.
"Good evening my child. I don't believe I've seen your face before, you recently move here?"
You responded yes and had recently moved into your grandfather's house. You told him your grandfather's name and his eyes seemed to widen slightly in recognition.
"You're Frank's granddaughter? My goodness it's a pleasure to meet you, I've heard rumors of someone moving into his house, I'm glad to hear it's a relative. My condolences for your loss, your grandfather was truly a kind and great man. He was a dear friend of mine. I was there at his funeral, I gave the homily."
He started acting a bit shy once he found out who you were. It was kinda cute.
"Oh my goodness, where are my manners, forgive me, I'm Father Nolan, but please call me Nol. I-i-if I might be so bold, I never expected to see you in the church. Your grandfather would talk about you and told me you've never gone to church. Not very religious I take it? Nothing wrong with that, don't worry I'm not judging."
He made a subtle look with his eyes, looking you up and down, and when he smiled you noticed two teeth that were sharper than the rest. Interesting.
