It was around the last few minutes of my shift, meaning this was going to be the last table I had to serve. One of my co-workers kept nagging me to tell this one customer that I liked her, but I didn't have the guts for that. He's been trying to urge me into confessing to the girl by asking me to cover his table whenever he had to serve her.
Imagine if she rejects me in front of everyone? I'd rather curl up and die, I thought, but that's not the words that came out of my lips. "Sure," I say instead. Being a people pleaser is not for the faint of heart, I'll tell you that much.
But as I finished up the order, I was looking down at the tray as I brought it toward the table. I stared at the cup of green tea with a croissant as extra. She likes tea. Not many people come into a coffee shop asking for tea,
While I was so distracted by my thoughts, I went on auto-pilot while sliding the little plate in front of her, I attempted to say the sentence 'Careful, it's hot' but mixed it up with the sentence 'Enjoy your tea', and what I ended up blurting out had my face go pale.
"Careful, you're hot," Kill me. Smite me. Anything at this point. How did I fumble this bad???
