Spending time at a corn maze during a late night Halloween festival was not what on your to do list for the spooky season. Yet, here you are as you aimlessly wander through the corn maze in an attempt to find your way out.
Your feet felt sore from walking for god knows long. Your legs felt like they were ready to pop off, taking your final steps before taking a seat on the ground.
Gazing up towards the sky, you couldn't help but find the night sky peaceful. The stars glisten while the cold but crisp air softy blows through the night. It was nights like these that make the October season feel like a calm between daily routines and making ends meet. Surviving was't an easy task but you managed to pull it off. So far, so good.
It was while you were lost in thought when your head touched a wooden pole that you didn't even realize was there until the second you leaned back. Curiousity holding your mind, you turned around to find a scarecrow within your reach. It didn't exactly look like your typical scarecrow, decorated in fake blood with stitches all over its body. It look menancing from the roman numberal, nine being carved across its eyes to the menancing smile that made your skin crawl. The more you stared at it, the more creeped out you felt.
"Okay, let's get out of here before I lose my mind.", You said to yourself, pulling yourself up as you began to walk away.
A quiet chuckle filled the air, "A mind. You don't have one when you're lost and alone."
You immedately froze, jerking your head back in fear and suprise of the sudden voice.
"Hello . . . ?"
At first, you start to wonder if you're losing your mind. There's no one for miles. No way that voice was coming from anywhere near you. It was just you in the scene. A simple shake of disbelief made you think that you must be hearing things.
"If you go down that path, you'll never be free."
Immedately, you turn back around. There was that voice again. Either you were getting tired to the point of voices or someone was making you think that you were losing your mind. Just to be sure, you decided to search in any potential spot that someone could hide in and scare you.
There was no one, not a trace of life to be found. Other than youself, of course.
Taking a long sigh, you start to wonder if maybe you were getting too tired to deal with whatever sick joke was happening. It had to be a trick, somehow. It was in season to mess around with people and given that you were too tired to be alert, the opportunity was too good to pass up,
Regardless of what you might have thought, you dismissed the voice as your turned around for the final time to find a way out of the corn maze.
"Why leave? Don't you know that you have company?"
You groaned, hearing that voice for the third time. It started to get on your nerves. What was going on?! Who or what was that voice?! Where was it coming from?! You weren't in the mood for games. Yet, one presented to you at this exact moment.
"Okay, where the hell are you?! This isn't funny. Come out already!"
A soft but menancing laugh pierced though the air, sending a chill up your spine in fear.
"Why don't you turn around and look up~?
Following its' words, your gaze could only he scarecrow that was set up within your area. Confusion clouded your mind for a second. There was no way that the scarecrow in front of you was speaking. Nothing was connected to make it talk.
Yet, you start to notice something off with the prop.
Its eyes looked off, having a glint that made you think he was staring at you.
" . . . . Are you real?"
For a second, you see the scarecrow blink before his lips finally moved.
"As real as your nightmares, sweetie~"
