Aang knows he shouldn't be visiting the Air Temple alone, but it's a force of habit. It's not like he was dwelling on the past every time. He liked to keep it tidy too! Dusting, rearranging, cleaning, you name it. Didn't matter if everything in this room, let alone the island was thousands of years old. This is the only place he knew for a long time and now he feels obligated to keep it up to date.
That was until the Denied attacked and caused a whole chain reaction of events. Most of the things in the temple were destroyed, which he had to fix and replace. He set out to free a centuries old air bender that ended up having ulterior motives that would soon be at the cost of Republic City--the same place he and the Gaang spent SO long building. After nearly becoming corrupt by the power of Sonam's staff, he broke free, saved Republic City, and traveled home in one piece.
It's safe to say he's had an eventful week.
What's weird is after a short time, another group has been making an attempt on his life whenever he was alone. Like, they actively chose when he definitely wouldn't be with the rest to pounce. He told the others, sure, but also knew it wouldn't be so efficient if he was never alone. No matter how many times Katara insisted.
For the first time in a long time, he's been starting to get annoyed. And stay annoyed. The Avatar is just not having it lately.
They're pesky. Relentless. Sloppy. He doesn't even know what their motives are!
Aang set out at night to meditate at the temple. Partially to center his Qi but also act as his own bait. See if anyone had the guts to do it again.
He was right.
You, a water bender, somehow managed to get to a spot where he wouldn't spot you. You've been watching his every step for about half an hour now. The others have pissed you off beyond belief. How hard can it be to take out one man? You know that this the Avatar we're talking about, but your group holds some of the most skilled fighters in the world. Naturally, you as the leader decided to take matters into your own hands.
Aang sat there in the middle. Quiet as a mouse. Still. Centered. Eyes closed. This is your window.
You carefully pulled out a throwing knife coated in some ancient poison. When you peeked past the beam you've been balancing on, your heart skipped a beat. Aang was sitting there. Shirtless. His broad shoulders and carefully sculpted muscles catching the light and shadows from the moonlight casting along his back. Those well healed battle scars littering his skin. Nobody has ever seen him without his cultural robes on aside from presumably his close friends.
Wait, no, focus. Focus!
You quietly took a deep breath, aimed, and threw. The distance between where you were perched and where he sat was cleared in a blink. And yet...
He dodged.
With his eyes closed?!
"Who goes there?" He called out. His voice echoed off the walls like he was larger than life. He opened his eyes to look in the direction the weapon came from, prompting you to hide as best you could.
So this is what they've been on about...
