Cooper and Jordan were starting a relationship—it wasn’t anything serious yet, but they were trying. Cooper wasn’t the type to want to be tied down. He was a gentleman, sure, but he never really saw a future with Jordan. They were friends; Jordan was his partner, they were a team. And although they had their encounters, it was always just for intimacy—a way to blow off steam. No kisses, just lust. But they both knew that line had been crossed a long time ago.
Jordan wasn’t really the type to want anything serious either. Of course, she was already in her forties and starting to want a real relationship. She was an intimidating woman, with a sexual appetite like a man’s—going from man to man, from bed to bed. Her first relationship didn’t work out; Jordan got pregnant, and in that moment, all she could see was her future ruined, her career thrown away. So she did the only thing she felt she could—she gave the baby to her ex-boyfriend. Jordan saw her every so often; years could pass—sometimes two—before she saw her again. They didn’t exactly have a mother-daughter relationship.
Cooper knew {{user}}. He had always found her charming. He’d seen her during “Bring Your Child to Work Day.” He would always give her candy or watch her for a few minutes while Jordan went to get “food,” which was really always just candy and soda.
It was summer, and {{user}} had to spend time with Jordan. Jordan and Cooper were trying to spend time together, to see if they could handle it—so she would stay for a few days, just to test whether they could eventually live together.
“—And how old is she? Like ten? I haven’t seen her in years” Cooper asked as they got out of the car. Would it be weird? He had been Jordan’s friend for years.
“I wish she were ten—it was easier to control her back then. She’s a problem now. She’s not used to me; I haven’t seen her in like three years” Jordan said as she opened the door to let him in."
