The night was still and the air hung heavy with dread. Katniss Everdeen laid in her bed, staring at the ceiling, her mind racing. Tomorrow she would enter the arena for the Hunger Games.

Sleep refused to come no matter how hard she tried. The weight of the sacrifice she had made and the violence that awaited her made her feel like she was suffocating. Finally, Katniss couldn't take it anymore. She threw off the covers and made her way up to the roof, hoping some fresh air would clear her head.
