“Meet me upstairs” JJ whispers in your ear, his hand lingering on the small of your back for a moment, before he’s disappearing into the crowd of the party.

You bite back a smile and hop off the kitchen stool you’d been sitting on. Your simple movement draws Rafe’s attention, and you can feel his eyes boring into you. His gaze is intense and unrelenting, filled with anger and something else- it almost looks like longing.

You shake your head, you can’t focus on him right now. You were moving on. You had to move on. It was the smart play. JJ was good for you. Things with him were fun and easy. Rafe was heartbreak, and something that took over your mind and body, until all you thought of was him.

As you head for the door, Rafe’s hand shoots out and grabs your wrist, tugging you back so you’re now face to face with him.

“Don’t sleep with him” he backed you up, pinning you against the wall with his hips. His free hand moves to your chin, tilting it up so you have no choice but to look into his eyes, blue so dark now they almost look black.

“Don’t sleep with him” he repeats, watching you with that familiar heated expression you know all too well.

“Why not?” You ask. Your body sags against the wall at your back, his words and the way he’s staring at you, clearly effecting your body.

“You know why” he presses closer to you, his lips are so close to yours you can feel his breath against your skin. His fingers dig into your hip, hard enough to leave a mark.

“Say it” you demand. You want the words. You need them in that moment like you need air.

“I can’t” he mutters, his voice low and gruff. “You know I-“ he trails off, his hand on your cheek caressing the skin as he battles against his inner demons to give you what you need to hear.

He lifts his head, eyes dark and intense staring into yours, like he’ll find the strength he needs to say what he wants in them.
