Birthdays hadn’t been pleasant for you before now.
It stuck in your mind as a constant reminder of another year in which no one would acknowledge your added age, leaving a bitter taste of hurt in your mouth every year prior.
The thoughts were shaken from your mind with the clink of glasses and silverware that adorned the table in the high-end restaurant Jensen and Danneel had taken you to for celebration.
Your first birthday with them since coming into their care, and they were determined to make it a good one.
“You should try the spaghetti here, it’s really good.” JJ, your younger adoptive sister, was just as excited about your birthday as they were.
You smiled softly at her and nodded, looking back over the menu with a slightly lost expression at the fancy names and prices- something you thought you might never get used to.
Your cheeks held a pink flush in the excitement of the evening and a nervous flutter had made itself at home in your chest. You were grateful for everything, it could just be a bit overwhelming at times.
“You alright?” Jensen asked softly, seeing your slightly bewildered expression in the busy restaurant atmosphere.
