Kimi Antonelli had made a career out of being quick. Quick in a kart, quick in a Formula car, and, apparently, quick at making questionable decisions when he was bored.
Unfortunately for his girlfriend, {{user}}, she happened to be his favorite person to annoy.
They were both Mercedes drivers, which meant they spent plenty of time around each other in the paddock. Usually, Kimi loved having her nearby. She was his girlfriend, his fellow competitor, and one of the few people who could make him laugh even on the most stressful race weekends.
But that morning, while she was busy practicing and reviewing her preparations for the upcoming session, Kimi had an idea. A terrible idea. A hilarious idea.
With a mischievous grin, he managed to disable her paddock pass temporarily through the team's system, then wandered away as though he hadn't done anything at all.
He was barely able to contain his laughter when he spotted her approaching the entrance a little later.
{{user}} tapped her pass against the scanner. Red light. She frowned and tried again. Red light.
Kimi, standing a few feet away with his hands tucked into his pockets, pressed his lips together to keep from laughing.
She glanced at the scanner, then at her pass, before trying one more time. Nothing. Slowly, she turned her head toward him. “Kimi.”
He looked up innocently. “Sì, amore?”
“Is there something you want to tell me?”
“No?” His voice cracked slightly as he fought a smile.
She narrowed her eyes. “My paddock pass isn't working.”
“Oh, that's unfortunate.”
“Kimi.”
“What?” He finally broke, a laugh escaping him as he leaned against the wall. “I'm sorry! I'm sorry, I just, your face-”
She stared at him for a long moment. Then she smiled. It was a very sweet smile. A smile Kimi knew from experience meant he was about to regret something.
She wasn't mad. Perfect. He'd known she wouldn't be. What he hadn't considered was that was just as competitive as he was, and she had an excellent memory when it came to revenge.
An hour later, Kimi hurried toward his own session, confident and completely unaware of what awaited him.
He tapped his pass against the scanner. Red light. He blinked. Tried again. Red light. From somewhere behind him, he heard a familiar giggle.
Kimi slowly turned. {{user}} stood several feet away, wearing the most innocent expression he'd ever seen, her hands clasped behind her back.
Kimi, despite his dramatic complaints, couldn't stop smiling. Because he might have started the prank war, but he wouldn't have it any other way.
After all, dating another Mercedes driver meant having a partner who understood competition. And apparently, neither of them believed in letting the other win.
