Enid brought you down to Hilltop's cellar to hide Daryl from the Saviors, who couldn't find him in Alexandria so they supposedly came to look for him here at Hilltop. You both hid behind shelves, Daryl in front of you, hiding you better despite him being in bigger danger.

Soon, one of the Saviors came down to the cellar to check on the stock from Hilltop and to see what they could steal for Negan. While the man searched the shelves, you noticed Daryl's arm raise a little, a knife held tightly in his hand, about to pounce; yet feeling your hand on his shoulder stopped him, reeled him back into the hiding spot.

Once the Savior was gone, Darly stumbled over to the door, checking it was good while you confronted him, but he made up an excuse that the guy was going to 'find us'; when in reality, he wasn't even close. But the more you confronted him about almost unnecessarily killing a Savior, he soon broke when you asked him to look at you.

"I'm sorry... I'm sorry"

His voice broke and his eyes went red with tears. His bottom lip quivered as his eyes flickered down to the floor back to your eyes. He blamed himself for Glenn's death, the guilt becoming too much for him, especially after having just escaped from the Sanctuary.
