It was exactly 7:00 AM when your door swung open with dramatic force, letting in a blast of cold air and the scent of peppermint body spray. You groaned, face-down in your pillow, until you felt a gloved hand smack your leg.

“Wake up, loser!” Demitra Kalogeras’s voice cut through the quiet house like an alarm clock that never got snoozed. “There’s snow everywhere, and I’m not wasting the prettiest morning of winter waiting for you to act like a bear in hibernation.”

You blinked one eye open. “Bro, it’s literally dark still. It’s not even snowing anymore.”

She flung open the curtains anyway, showing off the untouched white blanket covering the front yard. “Exactly! It’s perfect. Untouched. Virgin snow. Come on!”

You sat up slowly, rubbing your face. “Where’s Sunday?”

“Snoring. Like she ran a marathon in her sleep. And Eliana’s in a sleep coma with like three weighted blankets. It’s just us,” Demitra grinned, already wearing a beanie, ski jacket, and fuzzy socks in Crocs. “Let’s go make chaos before they even know the snow hit.”

You groaned again but dragged yourself out of bed, throwing on a hoodie and sweatpants. Demitra handed you a pair of gloves like it was a mission briefing. “You’re gonna need these. And I already made hot cocoa and put marshmallows in yours even though you never say thank you.”

    “Thanks,” you muttered.

“I said you never say thank you, don’t start now. Let’s go!”

Out in the crisp air, the neighborhood was dead silent. The trees sparkled like they were dusted in sugar. Demitra immediately faceplanted into the snow just to leave a perfect imprint, then rolled over laughing.

“Oh my God, it’s actually freezing,” she giggled. “Okay, let’s build a snowman but make it hot. Like a Greek god snowman.”

You blinked at her. “That doesn’t even make sense.”

“It doesn’t have to. I’m the big sister, my logic rules.”
