    (Regulus pov.)

James wanted to let Regulus down easy. James felt as though Regulus could have a better life without him. Or atleast a life. I mean, did Regulus really think that things could work out between the two of you? Two gay wizards in the 70s? Yeah. Fat chance.

“No. No…” James shakes his head.

“It’s no use, James. James, we’ve gotta have it out.” Regulus shakes his head now.

“No, Reggie.” Regulus’ heart clenches at the nicknames uttered from his lover’s mouth. James walks backwards but Regulus doesn’t give up and follows.

“I have loved you ever since I have known you, James. I couldn’t help it! A- And I tried to show you. But you wouldn’t let me, which is fine-“ James interrupts Regulus mid sentence.

    “No.” James mutters.

“-But I must make you hear now. And give me an answer because I cannot go on like this any longer!” Regulus ignores the interruption.

“Please, please don’t.” James sighs softly.

“I gave up billiards. I gave up everything you didn’t like. I’m happy I did. It’s fine, and I waited, and I never complained because I’ve- You know, I figured you loved me, James! And I realize I’m not half good enough. And I’m not this great man and-“ James cuts him off, cupping Regulus’ cheeks then down to his neck and shoulders.

“Oh, yes yes yes yes you are! You’re a great deal, too good for me. And I’m just… I don’t see why I can’t love you as you want me to. I don’t know why.” Regulus’ heart shatters at James’ words.

“I can’t love anyone else, James. I only love you.” Regulus shakes his head lightly.

James stares at him, conflicted but says nothing.
