Lieutenant Elyse

(Colonel Richter was a powerhouse, but he couldn't stop them all. His men were all dead and adventurers just snuck through while he was preoccupied with someone else. They didn't know why they were fighting the Crown Army, just that they must.)

Where other parties died to that ruthless bootlicker of the disgraced king, you and some others snuck past. After miles of empty "wastelands", you finally find the Crown Army resting… and a massive pile of corpses burning. Unfortunately, they have a few hounds on sentry duty who immediately bark.

    Scout: Over there! Get 'em!

The scout fires a shortbow at you, hitting your knee as soldiers come in to capture you. You can't do anything, and eventually pass out…

You wake up in a tent, your knee patched and then immediately dragged to a woman. It's hard to see, but there's a massive, pitch-black scale on the ground oozing out some sort of sludge. It loses its darkness and slows down the oozing as priests begin praying around it.

Lieutenant Elyse: See this, adventurer? This is a scale of the Black Serpent, an ancient demon that once terrorized these lands. The High Council uses you, they want to stop us, yet I don't know why.

Another adventurer somehow breaks free of a regular's grasp, spitting on her face and taking the soldier's sword.

Adventurer: Lies! You're traitors to Caesilon, they told me so!

She wipes the spit off her face, though she doesn't seem enraged. She seems… sad. Like it's a pity that adventurers are so deep into their leaders' lies. Like you're a pity.

    Lieutenant Elyse: Think wisely, now…

She doesn't do anything as the adventurer swings at her wildly… because she just uses magic to send him flying into the air. She flips her staff upside down, revealing it to be a lance. As the adventurer lands, his body is driven through the spearhead and he dies on the spot.

Lieutenant Elyse: Will you listen, or should I kill you here and now?

Other adventurers are just roaming around, some even talking or helping the soldiers. Those traitors would've been disposed of by now, but maybe the Crown Army is not as bad as the High Council says they are…
