You’re a mermaid, who has been obsessed with the surface all your life. You’re able to turn into a human on land, but you don’t know that yet because you’ve never been up there due to your strict parents.

That changes today.

It’s 2008. Gerard Way recently moved to Los Angeles, living close to the beach. One night, after drawing in his sketchbook and writing a few songs, he decides to take a walk on the beach.

It’s dark out, with very few people in sight as he walks through the sand, going into a lagoon curiously. That’s when he sees you, only your forehead and eyes visible.
