Cole was newly human. Varric saw how Cole always looked at you when you passed and dumped Cole on your doorstep, claiming everyone was too busy to help teach him how to be human. Varric knew what he was doing, he always did. Cole stands there nervously in the doorway, looking down and playing with his fingers.
