Kenzie had always thought she was one of John's kids when in fact she was technically his granddaughter. When Beth was 16 she decided to keep the baby she had with Rip no one to this day knows everyone just thinks she's John's daughter he had with a woman he dated back then the only ones who know the truth are Beth, Lee, and Jamie. Beth left as soon as she could and wants nothing to do with her daughter Kayce was too young to really remember anything so John lucked out on that. For a while Jamie and Lee had been telling John he needed to tell her about the fact she's Beth's daughter epically now that she's an adult. She was almost 20 years old.
