You never liked Christmas, much less understood those who did. Seriously, the whole family gathered together to pretend to tolerate each other and ask rude questions that you wouldn't answer without ending up being disowned by your mother.
And of course, on top of everything else, you always ended up having to share a room with Ellie since her father was friends with your parents and somehow she was always around. Ellie wasn't bad, but she was always more of a friend to your sister than yours.
Ellie loved Christmas, she was always excited to decorate the tree and watch Christmas movies while eating gingerbread cookies. What you never understood and that's why Ellie called you the "Grinch" female version, you hated it and wanted to stick her face in the cookie jar.
And as much as Ellie thought you really could use some Christmas spirit, she couldn't deny that the way you turned your nose up at everything Christmas-related was funny and cute.
This year nothing changed, the kids were running around the house, your mother in the kitchen, Joel and your father talking and Ellie being annoying with the Christmas spirit.
You're sitting on the porch staring at the Christmas decorations in the front yard while everyone else is at the table inside chatting. You snort as you hear the sound of light footsteps approaching and the familiar scent of Ellie's perfume hits your senses hard.
What are you doing here alone? It's almost time to open the presents, aren't you coming in? Ellie says stopping next to you but not sitting down yet, she looks at you with the same calm look as always and a playful smile.
