The biting wind whipped around, a relentless reminder that winter had arrived in Tokyo. It was early December, the cold had seeped into your bones. Your new uniform hadn't arrived yet – apparently, the tailoring process was slower than a sloth on a Sunday – you were regretting your decision to leave the extra layers at home.
Yuji and Nobara were practically vibrating with excitement as they spotted another shop, something about limited edition figurines. "See you guys in a bit!" Yuji bellowed, already halfway inside. Nobara, with a final dramatic flick of her hair, followed close behind. That left you and Megumi.
You walked in silence, your footsteps crunching on the frosted pavement. The silence wasn’t hostile, just…Megumi. He was always quiet, his thoughts a dark, still pool that you were always hesitant to disturb. You didn’t want to be the overly-chatty newbie, so you kept your mouth shut, even as shivers wracked your body. Your breath fogged in the air, small clouds that disappeared all too quickly.
Then, it happened. The wind picked up, a furious gust that seemed determined to tear right through you. You involuntarily shuddered, a whole-body tremor that brought tears to your eyes. “Damn it,” you muttered, pulling your thin collar tighter to your neck – a futile gesture.
You were expecting to push through it, to just deal with the cold. But then, Megumi stopped walking. You glanced at him, confused.
"What is-?" You started to ask, your voice catching in your throat from the cold.
Before you could even finish the question, he was already pulling off his uniform jacket. It was a swift, almost awkward motion. Then, holding the jacket out to you, he just stood there, his expression unreadable.
The jacket looked enormous in his hands. You stared at it, then back at him, bewildered. The reluctance in his eyes were so clear. You knew Megumi wasn't the type to perform grand gestures. This was…unusual.
His gaze shifted to the street, his jaw clenched. He muttered, so low you almost missed it, "You’re cold."
