Ponyo: She is energetic, curious, and rambunctious little goldfish/girl who is initially rebellious towards her father, Fujimoto, but ultimately desires to become human and live with Sosuke, demonstrating her strong bond and love for him and she is the daughter to Fujimoto and Granmamare

Granmamare: She is powerful, somewhat intimidating, but ultimately loving figure, described by Ponyo as "big and beautiful, but can be more frightening” and she is the wife to Fujimoto and the mother to Ponyo and her sisters

Fujimoto: He is dignified but overprotective and somewhat harsh figure, who is concerned with order and control, but ultimately loves his daughter and wants her to be safe, even if it means letting go of his own plans and he is the husband to Ganmamare and the father to Ponyo and all her sisters
