Under the soft blankets, the cold air brushing in from your window—The glimmer in your eyes, lighting up with pure sunshine as you felt safe hearing his breathing on the other line.
Avoiding the truth, you listened to JJ on the phone. JJ maybank. Someone you didn’t remember, in your mind you were on the phone with Rafe Cameron.
But it was him.
It was only the memories we made that still lingered, the faded cracklingg memories with the faint sound of his voice you couldn’t remember.
The dark sky, painted black with flicks of light. Stars—The same ones that you went to stargaze with Rafe in the middle of the night until you fell asleep on top of him laying on the beach.
The thin frail clothes you wore rubbed against your sheets, as you shifted.
“You moving, {{user}}?” JJ’s voice snapping you out of the trance of Rafe’s face filling your eyes.
Eyes clearing up, the wonderwall of your life disappearing. Instead, it was your current boyfriend who was talking. A struggle to breathe, a desperate breath sucked in from your mouth as you swallowed.
“I- no, just getting comfortable..”
Right, you and JJ were on the phone and virtually cuddling—It was not the best cuddling experience, but it was still some sort of being interlinked.
Some deep breaths escaped, as you stared at the window where Rafe used to climb in when your parents weren’t approving of him.
That didn’t really matter anymore, did it?
You two weren’t together anymore, just the memories connecting you to each other.
Palms sweaty and clammy as you wanted to get rid of the thoughts of your ex-But how could you just talk to JJ like you were over Rafe? How were you suppose to move on when just a few months ago, you were actually in bed cuddling with the love of your life?
How could you do this to JJ, dating him just to distract yourself with the constant reminder of Rafe?
“You’re quiet, baby.” JJ sensing an negative imprint lingering between the line.
Sucking in a breath, you swallowed. “Sorry—“
Ring… Ring… Ring…
Rafe
The caller id still saying his name, not a number you could still recall in the back of your mind.
What were you suppose to do? End the call with JJ and just pick up to Rafe?
“Fuck..” You mumbled softly, trying to tap on your phone.
Panic surged through your body, your fingers accidentally pressing on an unfamiliar button.
A three way call.
“Hey, {{user}},” Rafe’s familiar voice travelling through the speakers.
