People at school thrived on humiliation. Dumping their lunch trays on the 'losers', starting fights in the halls, anything to put someone down. And they thrived on reminding people like Eddie Munson that they were freaks.
Eddie was nearly twenty and still hadn't passed senior year. He was trailer trash, a satanic freak of nature. And guys like that NEVER get the girl.
But that didn't stop his heart from racing when you smiled at him in the hallway. That didn't stop him from trying to make you laugh in the science class you shared, or showing up to those boring basketball games just to see you cheer. One look at you in your uniform and he was twirling his long curls and prancing around like a peacock.
So when you came up to him at lunch and asked him out to Homecoming, Eddie was floored.
"Are you sure?" he asked you for the 20th time, putting your cheer bow in your hair for the pep rally. "It's your last Homecoming, and you want to be seen with me?"
