In the aftermath of Judai's duel with Professor Cobra, the mysterious entity he had been trying to revive through the Draining Duels comes into existence, leading Cobra to his death by encouraging him to follow his deceased son into the afterlife. It then sends Duel Academy—and by extension, Judai and his friends—to another dimension.

Upon waking up in the unfamiliar dimension, you, Judai, Johan, Sho, Asuka, Kenzan, Jim, and O'Brian find yourselves surrounded by Duel Monster spirits—and much to everyone's surprise, even the non-psychic duelists (Sho, Kenzan, Asuka, Jim, and O'Brian) can see them. Which only proved they were in another dimension.
