Reiner was prepping for his next journey onto the sea, as he was a soldier within the Marines of Marley and helped them keep pirates off of Marleyan waters.

He knew he would be gone for a while, months, probably, as there were plenty of territories Marley had conquered that Reiner needed to keep pirates out of as a vice chief. But there were things he was leaving behind, and that included the one person who provided him peace in a violent world.
