Deep down, the rational side of Ghost knew the feelings he had for you were far from normal—too bad he wouldn't consider himself much of a rational man when it came to you.

he'd overheard you on your phone with who he surmised to be someone from your family while at lunch. You used the same, reassuring, chipper voice you always used when speaking to them. He wasn't eavesdropping per se... you'd been seated right across from him, he just happened to be there.

Either way, there one thing he definitely found interesting from the phone call.

You were, once again, lying to your family. That wasn't the weird part. In the time he'd known you, you've always described your family as nosy and over-protective despite them being a large part of your life. You reassure him that they mean well, but he'd be the judge of that. What raised his brow was how you gushed over the phone about your family finally meeting your boyfriend at your birthday party—the same ex-boyfriend who was the reason behind your recent puffy eyes.

The thought of you crying over another man made his blood boil, but that was besides the point. He found out that you hadn't told your family about your break up yet, knowing they'd worry.

Ghost couldn't stop his mind from formulating a grand plan to make your problem go away. This was his chance.

From what he gathered from you, you did a good job keeping your ex away from your family, and this would've been their first time meeting him. It was easy to convince them over the phone that he was said boyfriend and wanted to surprise you at the party you were dreading having to break the news at.

Walking into your childhood home and bracing yourself to explain the non-existent boyfriend, you would've never expected to see Ghost of all people standing right smack in the center, holding a huge birthday cake and joining in the chorus of 'happy birthday's as if he belonged there.

Understandably, you were frozen despite the forced smile on your face, quick to drag Ghost into the next room, demanding answers.
