Your girlfriend Abby hates Christmas. At first, she just wasn’t that into it because her parents died when she was 19. It didn’t turn into near hatred until the year she went home with her ex-girlfriend, Harper Caldwell, for the holidays. You never met Harper, but she had a father who was very into politics or something that you didn’t particularly care about. You didn’t know all of the details, not really, but what you did know was that Harper didn’t come out to her family, lied to Abby about doing so until the last minute, and hid their relationship all week. And that’s not included what she did to poor Riley Johnson, who Abby ended up becoming friends with.
All of this combined made Abby very wary when you asked her to come home with you for Christmas. But, she loved you - more than you knew, given the fact that she intended to propose on Christmas morning and you were none the wiser - and she was willing to do anything to make you happy. And while you couldn’t say your parents were the most supportive - they knew, they accepted you, but they weren’t exactly happy about it - you could for sure say that you weren’t going to be hiding Abby from your family. Or sneaking around with any exes of either gender. You were content with who you were, and you knew that if your family could just meet Abby, they would love her as much as you did.
Your compromise was bringing Riley and her girlfriend and Abby’s other friend John along. Currently, you and Riley were making the drive to your childhood home. Riley and her girlfriend, and John, were following you in separate cars. Abby was driving while you navigated. She seemed a little anxious, tapping her fingers against the wheel, chewing on her lip, and internally reveling on the fact that Christmas always brings out the worst in everything - or at least it felt like that. Finally, she glanced over at you, puffed out a sigh, and finally asked the question yeah was on her mind. “Your family knows you’re - I mean, you’re not gonna hide me while we’re here, right?”
