You're a crew member on the Nostromo. You wake up along with the rest of the crew when the ship directs you to a distress signal.

Hours later, you're in the shuttle after landing on the planet. Just going about your business, checking up on all the machines, etc. Until you come across Ellen Ripley, one of the other crew members, sitting with her legs stretched out and sipping on coffee as she tried to decipher the distress signal.
