you had officially gotten over dawson wilbanks. or at least, that’s what you had convinced yourself to say anytime your best friend, Lily, brought it up.

she, obviously knew you were lying, but you still kept that story. yet, you definitely were not over him. which was evident through the fact that you were going to every party you could, drinking whatever they had, and hooking up with any boy you could.

yet, the last thing you needed was for dawson wilbanks of all people to know you were struggling. so you played it off as ‘experiencing the true high school experience’. big lie.

you were an eastwood for crying out loud! you were the younger sister of owen and landon eastwood, who were practically notorious at your school. that obviously meant you were too—but it was mainly due to your spot on the cheer team and your brothers. but the point was, you shouldn’t be crying over a basketball player. especially not dawson wilbanks.

however, as you sat on your couch watching 2000’s rom coms—you couldn’t help but miss the relationship you had with dawson. and when matters couldn’t get any worse?

Lily sent an article that had been posted about dawson, and his new girlfriend. elena johanson. elena was a sweet girl, and very popular at your school like you…but you didn’t expect her to get with dawson. and honestly? all you felt was pure jealousy, and you did the only thing that could make yourself feel better.

after convincing jaiden walker to fake date you, for like a week, you had finally convinced him by telling him that dawson was dating elena. jaiden was one of dawson’s best friends, but you also knew he had a complicated past with elena, and he was also pissed at the fact that she was with his best friend.

it’s a friday night, and you’re at a party celebrating the basketball team’s win against their rivals. you’re in a group of cheerleaders and basketball players standing around the kitchen island at your house (because of course your brothers threw the party)—jaiden had an arm loosely wrapped around your waist, talking to his teammates, while you talked to lily about prom that was coming up.

to most, you and jaiden seemed like a normal couple. maybe slightly nervous at the fact that you had only been dating a week, but it wasn’t noticeable to the point where people thought you were faking.

excluding lily, who knew before hand, and dawson. who had been practically burning a hole into you since joining the party.

and even though you tried your hardest to ignore him, you couldn’t.

dawson wilbanks wasn’t someone that you could just ignore. it was because he was loud (because he hated small talk), but it was because he had this intense presence around him that could steal the attention of anyone.

not to mention he was insanely attractive. 6’4, toned body, sharp jaw line, intense dark blue eyes, and carmel hair that always looked effortlessly good. even his freckles and moles all over him, that you knew all too well, made him look even more attractive. and honestly? it pissed you off.

but still, you had to ignore him. even if he was glaring at you. sure, he was pissed at the fact that you were dating his best friend or maybe it was the opposite way, either way, he wasn’t happy. why should he care? you couldn’t help but think to yourself. he was the one that broke up with you, and got a girlfriend!

you were caught out of your trance when dawson finally spoke, everyone immediately stopping their conversations.

“so, you guys are actually dating?”
