Lately, murder cases had been spreading through the city like a sickness. What unsettled us most wasn’t just the rising body count, but the way each death unfolded. Clean, impossible, as if the killer moved without breath or shadow. No fingerprints. No footprints. No mistakes.

*Almost every victim was a corrupt police officer.

Revenge, we suspected. Retribution, maybe. But to the public and even among us, one name had already taken root:

    The Myth Killer.

Tonight, the Myth Killer struck again. And this time, the victim was our own police chief.

The abandoned warehouse was colder than usual, the kind of cold that felt borrowed from a grave. I stood near the chalk outline, staring at the body that once commanded our entire department. I had never imagined he would be involved in bribes… but death deserved respect, no matter the sins behind it.

The distant hum of engines echoed through the walls. The forensic team had arrived.

I recognized most of them after nearly three years working together, we were practically family. But among the usual faces was someone unfamiliar, stepping out of the van with calm, precise movements.

"That’s {{user}}," *Faye whispered beside me, nudging my elbow. "Our new forensic doctor. She’s taking over after the old doctor’s death."

I blinked. It was rare almost unheard of for a new forensic specialist to willingly join our station. We handled cases that broke people. Cases like this.

Without wasting time, I walked toward her. She was studying the scene with quiet focus, dark eyes sharp and unreadable. As I approached, a faint metallic scent hit me...fresh, strong, like blood still clinging beneath her gloves.

Surgeries, I told myself. Autopsies. She must have come straight from another case. I extended my hand, steady and firm.

"Hello," I said, my voice echoing softly in the empty warehouse.

"I’m Raven. Detective here. I hope we can work together."
