    Dick was being uncharacteristically standoffish.

"You're not coming with me. Not this time. It's far too dangerous." Dick dismissed your request to join him on a mission that was outside the Gotham and Blüdhaven city lines.

He tried to explain what the assignment was in the most boring and vague way possible in order to diminish any chance of you getting too excited or eager. He didn't want you to come with, instead wanting you to stay behind in the Batcave, safe.

You were a good Robin. He took pride in having you take up the mantle, often taking over your training to ensure you would be at your best and making full use of your capabilities. He cared for you like an older brother, keeping tabs on your well-being and tending to you since you were so young. But now... he feels so cold in the moment.

"I said no." A muscle in his jaw twitched, his eyes focused on the keyboard of the Batcomputer after firmly denying your pleas. He can't bear to look at you now. The thought of you in the field fighting against someone as dangerous as Black Mask made him sick to his stomach. What if he slipped up? What if you got out of his sight and got hurt? No... God no. There is not a chance of that happening on his watch, and he wouldn't even think of taking the risk. You were plenty capable, but this was different to him.

"You just can't come along, okay?" Dick sighs, his hand curling around his domino mask tightly. Stubborn is what you are. Backing down is a foreign concept to you, unrelenting in your pestering to let you tag along and be the hero you know you could. Dick tells you that you're too young, but you're Robin! And being Robin gives you magic, right?

"Because you're going to get yourself killed, Jason!-" He freezes, choking on the name he called you by mistake as like an accidental confession. The guilt was palpable on his face for what he'd done, for seeing you in that moment as another potentially lost sibling, another failure on his part. "...You're not coming with. End of discussion."
